Objective: To explore the concept of sacrifice and reflect on its impact on individuals and faith communities.

Key Questions: Do we really believe we can make a difference? How do believers of a faith express their hopefulness? Are we proud of our past - should we be? How does religious history help to shape the present and the future?

By the end of this unit:

All learners will: be able to give a basic outline of the sacrifice stories; begin to show an understanding that there is more to a person than their body; be able to ask questions about the significance of sacrifice; start to reflect on what it means to be a member of a faith community; describe how members of faith communities remember the key stories of their traditions.

Most learners will also: describe the importance of the crucifixion of Jesus to Christians and how his death is remembered today.

Some learners will in addition: be able to analyse the importance of the crucifixion to Christians today and how his death is remembered today; understand the importance of remembering events of the history of faith.  They will be able to understand why Jews celebrate Passover and explain its symbolism.
