How did it all start?

£5.00

Objective: To reflect on religious and personal views of how the world began and how that impacts on how people treat the world today.

Key Questions: Why and how should we care for the various life forms and the physical world? To whom do Christians say the planet belongs? Why? How do we cause/contribute to suffering? How have Christians and Hindus responded to suffering?

By the end of this unit:

All learners will: be able to express their views in regard to the origins of the world and their responses towards the creation narratives discussed; be able to respond through a variety of media with their view of how the world began; be able to describe the concept of stewardship and the responsibility that Christians have towards the world as God’s creation; be able to understand how Gandhi responded with non-violence and how this concept is applicable to the natural world; be able to explore the beliefs behind Chief Seattle’s speech about the native Americans’ views of a land which cannot be owned; be able to begin to understand the impact of their  “footprint” on the world; be able to understand why we should care for the world.

Most learners will: identify and consider some basic questions about human impact on the environment; begin to understand how their actions impact on the world in which they are a part.

Some learners will: evaluate the belief in creation stories; begin to explain the development of creation stories and of environmental practice; understand their impact on the environment and the actions that they could take to reduce this impact.
